Welcome to my profile,
I'm Melissa Silva, born and raised in Falls church Virginia. I started in the hair industry over 25 years ago when I was just 15 years old, receiving my Cosmetology license when I was still a senior in high school. Over the years I've had the opportunity to meet some very talented people in the industry such as Geno Stampora, Derrick Rutledge, Aleksandar Blagojevic, Nick Arrojo and more who have inspired me to be the hairstylist I am today.
I believe that continued education is key not only for my professional growth and success, but also provides me with the skills to truly communicate with my clients and understand their needs in order to achieve beautiful color, cuts and styles that suite their lifestyles. I'm a classically trained stylist with a savvy eye for trends and pride myself in creating a cohesive, flowing blend of both polished and edgy styles for my clients of all ages, cultures and ethnicity.
I studied at the Wella academy in New York to receive my Master Color Expert Certification known as their top certification as a Wella MCE. This is a title that is only awarded to 35 hair stylists annually throughout the USA. I have also been certified in multiple training courses in Creative Color, Foil Craft, Color Correction, Hair cutting, Babe Hair extensions, Keratin treatments and more.
Outside of work I like to spend time with my family, friends and my precious little furry baby, Penny. When I'm not with them, I stay busy with my other passion, which is crafting! I make handcrafted jewelry, knitted hats, along with many other crafts under the logo "Melissa Lynn Designs". My creations are available for sale in my loft, and you can also check out my Facebook page to place custom orders.

First time seeing Melissa and already feel a connection in terms of her approach to taking things "slow" and most importantly, her ability to listen. You could say we both share the same "conservative" principles of keeping hair as natural and classy while still adding a bit of an edge to stay relevant to our times. One of my main goals is to even-up my base color by eliminating the "bands" that bother me so much. Even though I don't do my hair at home, seeing different hair colorists due to my travels have resulted in not a perfect match each time they touch up my roots. Melissa and I have a plan on how to get rid of the ugly bands and ensure the base color is perfect for my skin tone. We also talked about my options to finish my look with very natural "baby highlights" to achieve my second goal which is to have a "melting" effect of highs and lows to achieve a more natural look. Most of all, I feel that I'm in good hands and that truly shows based on Melissa's interactions, background education and experience. I'm thrilled with my new hair cut and can't wait to see her again next week.Thank you Melissa.
Hard to believe that Melissa has been styling my hair for over 20 years because we both remain so young:) For the first 10 years, Melissa skillfully updated & maintained my hair style, gave me excellent advice about what would and wouldn’t work and provided the occasional up-do or blowout for special events. She asked the right questions and really listened to the answers. Then it was time for this redhead to cover up some grey - and I’ve benefited from Melissa’s mastery with color ever since. Melissa has understood from the beginning that I am someone who likes to keep it simple and natural looking & I learned early on to trust her completely. I want to be sure to mention that just as important as her professional knowledge and skill, she’s a warm, kind and decent person. I cannot recommend her enough!
Melissa has been my hair stylist for 10+ years. Even after moving to Richmond, VA 4 years ago, I still make the commute to see her every 6 weeks. When you find someone who listens to you, talks to you and gives you honest and good advice about your hair, it’s hard to let them go, no matter what the distance......Melissa has always done a fabulous job on my hair, she’s extremely talented and very aware of coloring and hair trends. You won’t find a better stylist out there......
I have been seeing Melissa for nearly 15 years, and I would never trust anyone else with my hair. She is a wonderful stylist and listener - feeling a new style? She'll talk frankly about whether or not it's doable. Concerned you'll be hammed into buying tons of products? Nope, she'll suggest what's nice to have vs. what's essential to maintain a look. Bottom line is she'll actually learn what you like and what kind of styles you're looking for, and deliver completely on it. Look forward to booking my first appointment in the new space! :)
