Welcome to Splitwood Men’s Hair!
Splitwood Men’s Hair is a full-service men’s hair salon located in a private loft environment and is owned an operated independently by Bess Matamoros. (Located inside of downtown Durham Salon Lofts in Loft 9).
Hi there!
I’m Bess, a men’s haircare specialist with over a decade of experience in precision haircutting and natural hair colors.
My career began with an apprenticeship in a well-known and trusted barbershop in New England, where I spent the first couple of years of my career learning the technical, creative, professional, and interpersonal framework that would define how I operate my own business to this day. Thousands of haircuts, hair-colors, and various haircare services later- I absolutely love the craft and industry more than I could have ever possibly imagined. Barbering is an art form and a ministry to me and I strive to give my guests a world-class experience each visit.
By nature of my training and overall background, I specialize in men’s haircuts and men’s lived-in hair color. I currently carry Uppercute, Dear Barber, and Mailroom Barber Hair Co. styling products and will be introducing a couple of different lines in the very near future (TBA).
My absolute favorite haircuts to do are high-contrast bald fades and textured scissor cuts.
Multi-dimensional grey blending hair color is my favorite hair coloring service because it is so natural from day one to your next visit.
In addition to being incredibly passionate about barbering, I am beyond fortunate to work with the public and thoroughly enjoy my day-to-day social interactions. I sincerely look forward to meeting you! Please don't hesitate to reach out via phone or email with any questions.

*Masks are not mandatory and will be provided upon request of course.
*Shampoo/conditioning of hair and therapeutic hot-towel treatments are included in every men’s haircut service.
*Please arrive on time for your appointment, if you are running behind, please give me a call or shoot me a text. I will absolutely accommodate you if possible, however; if I have another appointment directly after your scheduled time, we may have to reschedule.*

I have always had a rather simple, short, haircut but sometimes these are the hardest. I never need to worry as Bess does a great job on each visit. How many times have you been in a barber's chair and felt you were getting a haircut from someone with the vocabulary of a second-grader? This is not the case with Bess.
